How to print the Hoticultural Schedule and Entry Form from the website.

The schedule and accompanying entry form are displayed in 'portable document format' (.pdf). This enables you to save the file to your own computer, for later reading or printing, or it can be printed-off directly from the screen window. You will need a current version of Adobe Reader installed on your computer. If you do not have it installed you can download and install it by clicking on the Adobe icon on the Home page of this website.

The schedule is designed to be produced as an A5 size booklet. (this size is half of one A4 sheet, so 2 pages of the schedule occupy one side of an A4 sheet.)

Most later models of printer allow for double-sided printing, sometimes referred to as 'duplex printing'. You may need to check that your printer is set for duplex printing before you begin to print. With double-sided printing each A4 sheet will contain 4 pages of the schedule (2 pages each side). To print the whole schedule (36 pages, including cover pages) will need 9 sheets of A4 paper. Make sure your printer is switched-on, with sufficient paper and ink, before you begin.

To begin printing:

First, click on the printer icon on the top tool bar of the Adobe Reader window (third icon from the left).

A second window will open that enables you to set up the printer to print as a booklet. (printer set-up window)

Towards the top of the printer set-up window you can see the name of the printer that you wish to use. If you have more than one printer, select the required printer from the drop-down list. Alongside the printer name is a button marked 'Properties'. Click on this and set your printer for double-sided printing. Make sure your page layout is set to 'Portrait', and then click OK to return to the main printer set-up window.

Next, select the number of pages that you wish to print (usually 'all'), then select the number of copies you require, (usually 1).

Below this is a section marked 'Page Scaling'. Select 'Booklet Printing' from the drop-down list, and in the next section below, labelled 'booklet subset', select 'Both Sides' from the drop-down list.

Next click the check-box labelled 'Auto Rotate Pages', so that a tick appears in the box, and then select 'Left' from the 'Binding' drop-down list. Make sure the 'Print to File' check-box is un-ticked (no tick showing).

You can then click the 'OK' button to begin printing.

Half the pages will then be printed-off and the printer will stop. Then remove all the printed sheets from the out-tray with one hand. Hold the pages with your hand at the top and the blank sides facing you, then without twisting or turning them, slide the pages back into the paper feed slot of the printer, so that the blank sides will be printed, then click 'resume' or 'continue' to print off the second half of the pages. Some printers will ask you to turn the paper, but ignore this because you have already set the print to 'Auto Rotate Pages' earlier, and just continue printing.

The finished sheets will be automatically collated to produce the booklet by folding the sheets in half, so that the pages are in sequence.

If you only wish to print off selected pages, remember that the page numbers on the displayed pages are not the same as the page number displayed on the tool bar. This is because the front cover page does not have page numbers. So choose the pages you want to print and note the page number(s) displayed on the tool bar, and use these to set your print range.

The Entry Form should be printed-off in exactly the same way, but uses just one A4 sheet, and you will end up with the form printed on one half of the A4 sheet. You can then fold the sheet in half and cut off the unprinted half.

If you have any difficulty in following these steps, then click on the 'Printing Tips' button at the bottom left of the printer set-up window. This will take you to the Adobe website which will illustrate various printing options, including booklet printing, as a guide.
